Make the perfect bow for your hair.
Hair bows add a little bit of fun to any girl's hair, no matter what her age. Unfortunately, many hair bows purchased at boutiques or hair salons can be expensive. Instead of spending your money on buying hair bows, make your own. With some ribbon, a hair clip, and some tools you can have your own homemade hair clips in no time.
Pencil/Marker
A pencil or a marker comes in handy when it comes to making perfect bows for the hair. Tie the ribbon into a knot around the middle of the pencil or marker so that the ribbon tails lay perpendicular to the pencil/marker. Doing this before you make your bow will create a small loop in the back of the bow. A small loop made from a pencil-or smaller object-is perfect for bobby pins or hair ties. The larger loop made from the marker is perfect for barrettes. Tie the ribbon into a bow once your knot is made. Then, simply slide the bow off of the pencil or marker and clip a bobby pin or barrette to the loop. Use the clip to attach the bow in the hair.
Thin Wire
Any thin wire will work well to make the perfect bow every time. You can find this thin wire at any arts and crafts store, or you can even use florist wire. Lay your ribbon out so that it is flat. Crisscross both ends of the ribbon and pinch it in the middle with your fingers. This is all you need to do to make the shape of the bow. Take your wire, and wrap it around the middle of the bow tightly to keep the bow form in perfect shape. Cut the wire with a pair of wire cutters if it is too long. Slide a bobby pin through the back of the bow, under a wire to attach the bow into the hair.
Ribbon Make Machines
There are ribbon making machines on the market that will help you make different bows for the hair. They are relatively inexpensive, and if you or your daughter loves to wear hair bows, you might want to buy one. When using, you simply insert one ribbon into the machine vertically. Then, insert another ribbon-it can be the same type as the vertical ribbon or different-into the machine horizontally. You will then "weave" the horizontal ribbon back-and-forth through the machine until you have as many loops as you want. Tie the vertical ribbon over the horizontal ribbon into a tight knot. Slide a hair tie onto one of the ribbon ends, and tie it into another knot. Pull the bow out of the machine and use the hair tie to place the bow into the hair.
