Create A Princess Costume

Every girl wants to be a princess. While you might not be able to act and dress like a princess every day, you most certainly can on Halloween. You can even have your hair and nails done so you really feel like royalty when you put on the stunning dress you made. Or, make your little one feel like Cinderella by dressing her up for her school parade.

Instructions

1. Decide what kind of princess you want the costume to be: a Disney princess, Royal princess or just a princess in general. If you have a specific look in mind, try to find a photo of it in magazines, books or online. Cut out or print out the photo(s) and take it with you to the fabric store.

2. Find a dress pattern that is similar to the dress design you desire. Purchase the pattern and look for fabric in the colors you want. For a royal look you might lean toward rich tones such as burgundy, gold, purple and deep browns. Each Disney princess has their own colors a general princess could easily dress in pink, purple, yellow or white. Find fabrics that are lightweight, as a heavy costume will wear on the body during the long Halloween night.

3. Cut out the pattern pieces. Lay out your fabric and pin the pattern pieces on the wrong side of the fabric. Sew the pieces together on a sewing machine using a simple stitch. Try the costume on to make sure it fits. Make adjustments as needed. Cut pieces of ribbon in your chosen colors and tie several small bows. Hand sew the bows on the bow hem of the dress for some added flair.

4. Glue rhinestones all over the costume or in a specific pattern on the dress. Princesses always shine, so this is very important to make the costume sparkle for a little one who will get a kick out of their "diamonds."

5. Find some glamorous fake jewelry that is filled with rhinestones or gold. Do the princess' hair and place the crown on top of her head.
