Make wreath bows to adorn floral swags and wreaths.
While wreath bows look ornate and beautiful as they hang from a swag or a wreath, they are surprisingly simple to create once you learn the process. You can simplify your bow making and create bows with lovely shaped loops if you use wired ribbon to make the wreath bows. Practice the technique until you feel comfortable making a large, loopy bow and then get busy creating attractive bows to adorn your floral arrangements.
Instructions
1. Cut a piece of ribbon the length you desire for the finished tails of the bow and set this ribbon aside momentarily; make this ribbon length the entire length of both tails combined. Cut a 10-inch length of floral wire with the wire cutters and set this aside also.
2. Hold the remaining long piece of ribbon at either end (it does not matter which end). Make a twist in the ribbon approximately 4 inches from this end so the "right" side of the ribbon (the side with the design or print) to the right of the twist is facing up and the "wrong" side of the ribbon to the left of the twist is facing up.
3. Hold the twist made in Step 2 with your thumb and index finger and pull the long end of the ribbon (the majority of the length of ribbon) straight down from the twist (let it hang down). Loop the ribbon back up and around so it makes a loose loop that covers your thumb and then extend the length of ribbon straight down again (hanging from behind the twist).
4. Twist the ribbon hanging down from behind the center point so the "right" side of the ribbon is facing up.
5. Make the first ribbon loop by creating a loop of ribbon as large as you desire coming off from the center point of the twisted ribbon. Always twist the ribbon to make sure the "right" side of the ribbon is facing up to create the loops.
6. Make the second loop on the opposite side of the bow in the same manner, twisting the wired ribbon tightly in the center to keep the "right" side of the ribbon facing out for the loop.
7. Continue making loops alternating on both sides of the bow until you have only about 4 inches of ribbon remaining.
8. Center the length of ribbon for the finished tails you cut in Step 1 beneath the ribbon bow so each end of this ribbon extends out evenly from the bow.
9. Insert the floral wire through the center loop of the ribbon bow to secure the loops of ribbon. Extend the floral wire around to the back of the bow and encircle the length of ribbon for the tails in the wire also. Twist the floral wire tightly three to four times at the back of the bow to secure the ribbons and hold them in place. Leave the excess floral wire extending out from the back of the bow to attach the bow to your wreath or swag.
10. Arrange the loops of the bow so they look the way you desire to finish the bow.
