Bows made from wide ribbon consist of several large loops. Bows can be made with graduating loops, beginning with the smallest loop closest to the center and larger loops on the outside edge, or with all loops the same size. A full bow requires three to nine loops on each side of the center. You will separate the bows and place them in a rounded shape upon completion of the bow.
Instructions
1. Cut a 12-inch piece of wire, and set aside. Cut a 6-foot piece of ribbon. Make a 1-inch loop 12 inches from the end of the ribbon. Pinch the loop, and hold it firmly between the thumb and index finger.
2. Make a 3-inch loop to one side of the center 1-inch loop, and bring it back to the center. Twist the ribbon at the center point and secure under the thumb and index finger. This makes the width of the ribbon easier to secure once the bow is complete. Make a second loop on the other side of the center 1-inch loop in the same manner, twisting as needed to ensure the right side of the ribbon is visible. The pattern of the looping will resemble a figure 8. Continue making loops until the bow is full. Make sure to have an uneven number of loops on each side of the center loops: Three loops on each side of the center will make a total of six loops plus the center 1-inch loop that is used for hiding the wire that holds the bow together. This allows for the bow to look symmetrical when complete.
3. Slide the wire through the 1-inch center loop and around the twisted ribbon. Secure wire tightly. Cut the tails and fan out the bow loops.
