You can decorate basic barrettes to match an outfit or holiday.
Barrettes are a hair accessory in the form of a long clip. They can be used to pull up sections of hair, or just as a decoration in your hair. You can decorate barrettes using glue and your favorite craft supplies and design them to match a certain outfit or holiday. By decorating your own hair barrettes you can save money and brush up on your crafting skills.
Instructions
1. Plug in the hot glue gun and allow it to completely heat up. This should take about 5 to 10 minutes.
2. Select the craft materials you want to put on your barrette. Craft materials that work well for decorating barrettes are fabric, sequins, balloons, silk flowers and paint.
3. Paint the metal barrette a base color if you desire. Depending on what materials you glue onto the barrette, you may not be able to see the paint color underneath. Allow the barrette to completely dry.
4. Place a few drops of hot glue onto the barrette and press the desired craft materials onto the glue drops. If you are using fabric, cut the fabric into 1 inch by 5 inch strips and sew them together in a pinwheel pattern first, then glue the bottom of the fabric onto the top of the barrette. If you are using balloons, tie the balloons together with a string before gluing the bunch onto the barrette.
5. Glue sequins or glitter on top of any other materials you attached to the barrette. Put drops of hot glue on the fabric, flowers or balloons and individually place a sequin on each glue drop, or drizzle glue all over the material and dust glitter over the top of it.
6. Allow the barrette to completely dry before putting it in your hair.
