Make Headbands For Infant & Toddler Women

Infant headbands are a cute accessory for any outfit.

Make infant and girls headbands as an accessory to any outfit. Headbands are a way to give your baby a little frill when she has little hair and it's hard to tell whether she's a girl or a boy. Use headbands to keep fly-away hair out of little girls' eyes. You can make headbands in a variety of colors to match little girl's outfits.

Instructions

1. Fold the ends of each ribbon down ¼ inch. Press each end of the ribbons to form a crease in the ribbon. The 30-inch length will fit infants through 6 months. For a custom fit, measure the circumference of the child's head.

2. Lay the ribbons so the edges of the crease point upward. Place the 5/8-inch ribbon on top of the 7/8-inch ribbon. Center the 5/8-inch ribbon on the 7/8-inch ribbon. Use straight pins to hold the ribbons together.

3. Stitch along the edges of the 5/8-inch ribbon all the way to the end of the ribbon on both sides. Make sure you stitch the very edges to leave room so you can feed the elastic through the hole.

4. Pin the end of the elastic with a safety pin. The safety pin will help guide the elastic through the ribbon. Feed the safety pin end of the elastic through the ribbon until it comes out on the other end. Gently gather the ribbon toward the bottom of the safety pin; pull the pin upward until it reaches the other end.

5. Remove the safety pin from the elastic. Overlap the two ends of the elastic ¼ inch. Sew the two pieces together. Overlap the turned-up edges of ribbon; sew those pieces together. Gather the ribbon so it looks bunched.

6. Fit the headband to the infant's head. Adjust the elastic to fit her head. Let out a little of the elastic or use a longer piece to loosen the headband. Place a pleat in the elastic to tighten the headband.
