Craft your own assortment of hair fasteners.
Hair can be transformed from your current style by pinning it up, pulling it back or securing it with fasteners. Suitable for short, medium and longer-length styles, you can use hair fasteners in an assortment of ways. From ponytail holders to barrettes, you can make your own collection of hair fasteners by using easy-to-find items and your own creativity.
Instructions
1. Make headbands by starting with a plain headband. Use a solid plastic headband to create a hair fastener with glued-on gems, rhinestones and silk flowers. Paint the plastic hairband if you want a smooth finish to the band by using acrylic paint. Fabric headbands can be adorned with bows, flowers or gems by using a hot glue gun to secure the embellishments. To paint a fabric headband, use fabric paint.
2. Make hair fasteners for your hair by using plain barrettes or metal clips, found at beauty supply or drug stores. The silver metal clips can be turned into unique hair fasteners by gluing on bows, flowers or charms. To change a plain barrette into a soft fabric fastener, twist thin ribbon around the barrette, or clip and secure the end piece on the underside using a hot glue gun.
3. Craft a ponytail holder with flair by securing a large silk flower to a simple hair band. If you do not have a ponytail holder available, use a rubber band. Cut off the stem of the faux flower so only a 1/4-inch section remains. Fasten the flower to the ponytail holder by wrapping craft wire or string around the band to hold the flower in place. You can also attach long ribbons to ponytail bands by knotting the ends of the ribbon to the band and allowing the ends to hang down.
4. Decorate plain bobby pins by gluing gemstones, rhinestones, beads and glitter to the outside flat section of the pin. Make an assortment of decorated bobby pins for use when wearing your hair in an up-do. You can also glue small silk flowers to bobby pins along with tiny bows for a more feminine look.
