Often, when people consider maintaining their youthful appearance or getting rid of that sagginess in their cheeks, they think of face lifts and traditional skincare routines or regimens. Fortunately, there are other methods to achieve well-toned cheeks. People have been using facial exercises for centuries. These exercises are especially useful in today's stressful, busy society.
General Rules to Follow
Performing facial exercises on a daily basis is important, but it isn't the only step in maintaining a slimmer and better-toned face. Eating a protein-rich diet, performing regular upward facial massage, avoiding direct contact with sunlight and practicing good stress management skills will also help. Stress, sadness and anger cause us to make expressions that tend to put wrinkles in our faces. Learning to control our facial features may be the first step in maintaining a toned face.
Facial Massage
When performed by experienced hands, a facial massage can be extremely beneficial not only to help ease facial tension and soothe the overall facial features but to tone the cheeks and mouth area. Receiving a facial massage on a regular basis works well in conjunction with performing daily facial exercises. When giving yourself a facial massage, keep in mind what type of skin you have specifically so that you can properly choose the oil or lotion to massage into your face. If your skin is normal or oily, you can opt for ordinary cold cream or an all-purpose cream. If you suffer from dry skin, use a vitamin cream or a vanishing cream. Make sure to massage with light pressure and strokes from the insides to the outer sides and from the lower to upper parts of the face.
The Exercises
Start by opening your mouth wide as if you are about to scream. Your eyes should feel as if they are spread apart. Stare straight ahead and revert back to the original position. Do this five times. Now repeat five more times while moving your head from left to right.
Next, press your forehead near the hairline with your fingers, rubbing with a backward motion. This technique helps to make forehead lines disappear.
Open your eyes wide and slide your head back. Open and close your mouth while moving your jaw as if you are munching on carrot sticks. Repeat 10 times.
Now, sit in front of a mirror and twist your lips inward. Puff your mouth with the air inside of it. Allow half of your face to "laugh." Switch sides and "laugh" with the other half of your face. Repeat 10 times. This exercise will help to smooth out the cheeks.
Stare straight ahead into the mirror. Press your teeth together and spread your lips apart. Hold for a count of 10. Repeat 10 times.
Finally, twist your lips, puffing up your cheeks while holding air in them. Keep three fingers on each side, pressing slowly. Do not let the air escape. Remain in this position for approximately 10 minutes, if possible. This exercise is excellent for toning the cheeks and mouth areas.
