Dress up your baby girl with a stretchy infant headband.
Infant headbands are a fun fashion accessory for baby girls. You can make a stretchy infant headband easily at home from soft stretch lace or nylon tights. Choose colors to match your baby's wardrobe or opt for classic white and embellish with coordinating colors. Change the look of your plain headbands with clip-on hair accessories.
Instructions
1. Measure you baby's head and add 1/2 inch. Cut a piece of stretch lace or a length of nylon tights leg to this measurement.
2. Thread the needle with a 10-inch length of thread to match your headband. Tie a knot at one end and trim the end of the thread close to the knot.
3. Overlap the ends of the lace, or tuck one end of the tights leg fabric inside the other. Hold the ends of the lace or tights fabric with one hand.
4. Insert the needle down through both layers at one edge of the headband. Push the needle back through to the surface 1/16 inch away. Continue this in-and-out motion across the width of the headband to sew the layers together.
5. Turn the headband and stitch across the overlap in the opposite direction for a stronger join. Pull the thread to gather up the fabric when using tights material. Tie a knot at the edge of the headband to secure the thread.
6. Put the headband around your baby's head and check the fit to be sure it isn't too tight. The headband should fit snug enough to stay in place, but not so tight as to leave marks on your baby's skin.
7. Position the join at the top, or to one side. Embellish with a clip-on hair accessory placed over the join.
