Even if you don't have a fancy cork screw you can remove the cork from a bottle of wine.
When you are ready to sit down and relax with a nice glass of wine but you can't find the corkscrew to remove the cork from the bottle, it can be frustrating. But if you have a few basic household tools, there is a way to make a simple homemade corkscrew you can use to get the cork out of the bottle and salvage the mood of the occasion. Add this to my Recipe Box.
Instructions
1. Wash the wood screw in hot, soapy water. Dry the screw, using paper towel.
2. Place the tip of the wood screw in the center of the top of the cork. Twist the screw clockwise to drive it into the cork, using your fingers. Push down and turn the screw until it stands up straight on its own.
3. Place the tip of the Phillips screwdriver into the head of the wood screw. Turn the screwdriver clockwise until the tip of the screwdriver locks into place on the head of the screw.
4. Hold the bottle securely on the table with one hand. Begin turning the screwdriver clockwise to drive the screw deeper into the cork.
5. Keep driving the screw deeper into the cork until you are about half-way through the cork. Stop before the screw comes out the bottom of the cork. Set the screwdriver aside.
6. Grip the bottle of wine around the neck of the bottle with one hand. Pick up the pliers. Grip the head of the screw protruding from the top of the cork using the pliers. Push down on the bottle while you pull up on the screw until the cork comes out of the bottle.
