Hair extensions allow you to change the color, length and texture of your hair.
Hair extensions or "weaves" are commonly used by women who want to add volume, color and length to their natural hair. Hair extensions come in a variety of colors, lengths and textures and can be manufactured as synthetic or made from human hair. To sew in hair extensions, the hair must be adhered to a "track," which is a weft that individual hairs are attached to. Sewing extensions into the hair can take up to four hours or more. Learning sew in hair extensions will require a little time and practice.
Instructions
1. Wash your natural hair thoroughly and allow to dry. You may apply light product to moisturize your hair.
2. Cornrow the individual's natural hair. Usually, the hair is cornrowed in a circular motion around the head. You may leave the front or sides of the person's natural hair out to blend with the weave. Begin by parting the hair horizontally at the crown section. Take three pieces of the individual's hair -- the right, center and left strands of hair to begin braiding. Take the right strand and cross under the center strand, while picking up hair and take the left strand and cross under the center strand, while picking up the hair. Continue until you have braided all of the hair. The braiding pattern should be similar to french braiding.
3. Cut the tracks to the length of the cornrow braided into the natural hair. Beginning in the nape area, measure the length of the braid and cut the weave track. This procedure should be done in sections to ensure there isn't any overlapping of the weave tracks.
4. Pick up your curved needle and thread. Place the track you measured in Step 3 against the braid. Take the curved needle and sew the track into the braid until you reach the end of the weave track. Tie a knot with the thread to secure the weave track to the hair. Continue the process with the rest of the hair.
