Easy Methods To Make Hair Bows

Create custom designed decorations for your hair with these easy ways to make hair bows. You can create a single silk flower clip, a glass rainbow barrette or a waterfall of ribbon to add emphasis, color and design to your hair style. You can find everything you need to make all of these hair bows at your local craft store or online retailers.

Large Flower Bow

Make an easy single flower hair bow with a large silk flower, a double prong alligator clip and strong craft glue like E-6000. Cut the silk blossom from the end of the stem with wire cutters or sharp scissors. Your flower blossom should be large enough to cover the entire alligator clip. Cut it so that it lies flat, even if you have to remove the very center of the bloom. In this case, you can glue a coordinating glass cabochon in the center of your blossom once you place it on the clip. Glue your blossom as close to the tip of your clip as possible while still covering the pincers. Remove any excess glue so your clip will not be glued together. You can use a toothpick to easily remove thick glue, or simply wipe liquid away with a wet cloth.

Rainbow Barrette

Design a row of colorful cabochons to fit along the top of a French barrette. Barrettes snap closed underneath your hair with a straight metal strip on top that's perfect for making any kind of hair bows. Small- to medium-size flat-backed stones, or cabochons, will cover the metal strip. Use in a rainbow or monotone design. Run a bead of strong craft glue along the strip and press the stones into it. Remove the excess glue as above.

Ribbon and Rhinestone Bobby Pin

Cut six 10-inch strips of ¼-inch ribbon. Mix and match each strand, or make this easy bow from one ribbon color or design. Stack the strands vertically, one on top of the other, so that the ends are flush. Place the bobby pin in the center of the ribbon stack with the flat head facing up. Tie the ribbons in a tight double knot around the bobby pin. The knot should fall just beneath the flat head. Add a drop of glue to the flat head and press a flat-back rhinestone into the adhesive. Remove any excess glue as above.
