Assemble Barrettes In Your Own Home

Most little girl love barrettes.

Most little girls love barrettes, and even teens and older women will wear more sophisticated styles. Barrettes come in all shapes and sizes, and are useful for keeping flyaway strands of hair in place. They can make thoughtful birthday presents and nice additions to sell at a craft booth. Barrettes can be easy to assemble at home with just a few inexpensive materials and a little creativity.

Instructions

Felt Owl Barrettes

1. Start with a metal snap barrette that is 2 to 3 inches long. These can be found at most craft or beauty supply stores.

2. Cut out an owl shape that is slightly longer than the barrette from any color of felt that you desire. Attach tear-drop shaped wings to the sides of the body with white crafter's glue. Add a small triangle for a beak and two googly eyes. Allow to dry.

3. Push your needle through the center of the bird and loop around the center of the top of the barrette. Repeat this several times, creating a loop stitch that will attach the bird to the barrette. Knot the thread on the underside of the bird. Do this again at the bottom of the barrette.

Craft Foam Barrettes

4. Cut a rectangle from a foam sheet of any color that is slightly lager and wider than the barrette you wish to use.

5. Decorate your foam sheet with foam stickers of different shapes. You can make animals, hearts, or anything you choose.

6. Embellish your barrette with glitter paint, stickers, or alphabet beads that spell out your name. Allow all glue and paint to dry.

7. Glue the rectangle on to your barrette with craft glue. Allow to dry.

Other Barrette Ideas

8. Glue a large silk bow on to a barrette to make a cheerleader-style ribbon barrette.

9. Purchase wooden cut-out shapes at a craft supply store and paint them. Glue to barrette.

10. Glue feathers onto a barrette to create a beautiful "diva style" look.
