Tame baby's mane with handmade hair clippies
Hair clips provide the perfect finishing touch to any baby's outfit. It can be expensive to buy a new bow for every outfit, so you may want to make your own baby hair clippies at home. Use a needle and thread, a sewing machine or craft glue to make your own baby hair clippies in a variety of styles and colors.
Instructions
1. Gather your supplies. Get a blank hair clip from the craft store; it should be the style that snaps down onto itself to close. Also find ribbon that is approximately 1/2 inch wider than the hair clip. If you can sew, you can use a sewing machine or a needle and thread to make these hair clippies; you will need thread in a color that coordinates with the ribbon you are using. If you cannot sew, use craft glue or a hot glue gun instead. If you want to embellish your clippies, find buttons that match your ribbon.
2. Measure a length of ribbon that is twice as long as the hair clip. Fold the ribbon in half, then fold down one cut edge by 1/4 inch and the other edge by 1/2 inch. Sew these folded edges down, and then sew the sides of the ribbon to form a pocket. If you are using craft glue, glue in the places you would sew.
3. Open the hair clip, and slide it inside this pocket of ribbon so that the ribbon covers the top of the hair clip but the bottom of the clip is outside the pocket. Sew another small stitch through the top of the ribbon and around one of the metal bars on the hair clip to secure the pocket to the clip. If you are using glue, place a dot of glue on the top of the clip before sliding it into the pocket, then press to secure it.
4. If you want to add buttons or other embellishments, sew or glue them onto the top of the ribbon at this time. When the hair clip is dry, it is ready to wear.
