Make a Superman Pinata
Superman is known as the "Man of Steel" but, in piñata form, a 5-year-old child wielding a plastic baseball bat can destroy him within minutes. If you have a big Superman fan in your life, give him a special surprise at his next birthday party with a piñata of his favorite superhero. It's even fairly easy to make your own for a fraction of the price of a store-bought version.
Instructions
1. Duct tape the bottom and corners of an empty cereal box. This will make the piñata more durable so that it will last longer as the children hit it.
2. Cut red and blue construction paper into 1-inch strips.
3. Layer the blue construction paper strips onto the cereal box with glue. Start at around two-thirds of the way down the box and make even rows all the way up. Each new row should slightly overlap the row below it. Only apply glue to the top part of each strip so that the bottom part hangs freely.
4. Apply the red construction paper to the lower third of the cereal box. This represents the tights that Superman wears. Repeat the same process as the blue construction paper, starting from the bottom of the box.
5. Print a Superman logo, glue it to the front of the box and let it dry completely. You can find a logo online easily and size it to fit the box. If you want to beef up the logo presence, print small versions for the sides of the box.
6. Print and glue another logo onto a large piece of red felt to use as a cape. Glue or tape the cape to the piñata.
7. Use duct tape to apply a coffee can head to Superman's body. Wrap the tape around the top of the can and attach the tape to the inside of the cereal box. Repeat this step three times to make sure the coffee can secure.
8. Fill the piñata with candy and small toys through the top of the cereal box.
9. Wrap white or tan construction paper around a small coffee can. Use a black marker to draw facial details like eyes, nose, mouth, ears and eyebrows. Add a piece of black construction paper for the hair or use a small wig.
10. Poke holes in the top corners of the piñata and thread sturdy string through them. Tie the string in a loop from which you can hang the Superman piñata.
