Funny pumpkin faces are easy to create by following a few tips.
Pumpkin decorating is one of the highlights of October as Halloween approaches. Carving pumpkins is not always an option when children want to participate in this fun holiday tradition as it is necessary to use a sharp object like a knife. For a safe and creative alternative, paint a funny face on your pumpkin.
Instructions
1. Pick out a pumpkin for painting. The more asymmetrical the better for creating a funny face.
2. Wash the pumpkin with mild soap and water. This will rinse any dirt or other residue from the surface so the paint will adhere properly and go on smoothly.
3. Completely dry the pumpkin with a dish towel.
4. Prepare the paints. With the lid closed, shake each different color container of paint. Using an egg carton as a paint holder, pour a small amount of each color into a separate divot in the egg carton.
5. Pick a surface for your pumpkin face. You can flip the pumpkin so that the stem acts as a nose, or use the bottom of the pumpkin as the face. You can use an odd-shaped side or a perfectly shaped side. The less conventional it is the funnier it will appear in the end.
6. Paint the eyes. Much of the humor of your pumpkin will be a result of the eyes you paint. Paint two (or more) white circles for the eyes. Make them uneven for a more humorous effect. Paint the iris in the eyes. Make them asymmetrical to make them look goofy or dizzy. For example, paint the iris in the top left of one eye and in the bottom right of the other eye.
7. Paint a nose. Use an unconventional shape or paint color. Add a wart or earring to the nose for more humor.
8. Paint the mouth. This is another way to make your pumpkin funny. Paint the mouth with yellow or black paint. Paint an odd number of teeth in the mouth or add a tongue that sticks out to make people giggle at your pumpkin.
9. Add accessories. Using bright or uncommon colors for pumpkins (think pink or bright blue), paint accessories on your pumpkin to add to its character: hair bow, neck tie, earrings, necklace, hat or glasses. The result will be a unique and funny pumpkin face.
10. Let the painted pumpkin dry.
