While a trip to the salon or make up counter is a lovely luxury, most of us will get ready for big events on our own at home. Learning a few easy hair styles and simple make up tricks can keep you looking lovely for both casual and dressier activities. While skin tone and hair type can impact what looks best on you, some tips are helpful for nearly every woman.
Simple Hair Styles
While most of us look good when we put some time and effort into our hairstyle, there are too many times when we just can't wash, blow dry and straighten or curl before we have to be out of the house. Having a supply of headbands, barrettes and other accessories on hand can save a bad hair day in a hurry. Even short hair can benefit from a quick sweep to the side and hair clip or a cute headband. Longer hair can be styled into a fast french twist or low ponytail. Take away that "not washed" look and add volume by turning your head upside down and spraying lightly with hairspray. Dry just the front and along your part if you have time to wash your hair, but not style it fully.
Makeup in a Hurry
Lightly apply a tinted moisturizer over bare skin or your make up from that morning if you are rushed for time and need to freshen your face. This can add a bit of color and dewiness to your skin. Add a fresh coat of a lipstick or lip gloss and a bit of concealer dotted on the inner corner of the eye. Curl your eyelashes near the base and go. This two-minute routine will help you look fresh and rested, requires minimal products and is a good choice for weekends or weekdays.
Add Glamour
More formal occasions require more elaborately styled hair and make up. Roller set your hair before styling to add volume for up-dos. Apply a shine enhancing serum lightly after styling, if you are wearing your hair straight. A jeweled band or clip and old-fashioned finger waves can add elegance to short hair styles. Go for an elegant old Hollywood look with your make up by wearing a matte foundation, dark liner and fake lashes. Finish off your look with a true red lipstick. This look is classic, elegant and appropriate for nearly any formal occasion.
