Attach Covered Buttons To Bows

Create personalized bows by adding covered buttons as a centerpiece.

Add covered buttons to bows to make a look that is all your own. Buttons can be covered with virtually any fabric and added as embellishments to a wide array of crafts. Many crafters add covered buttons to bows when creating homemade items. When attached to the middle of a bow, the bow has a more completed look and can then be added to hair clips, dresses, headbands and even belts.

Instructions

Gluing on the Button

1. Plug the hot glue gun in and insert the glue stick into the hole in the back of the glue gun. Push the stick in until it reaches the front of the gun and can't go any farther.

2. Aim the glue gun at the middle of the bow. Squeeze the handle on the glue gun so that a pea size drop of glue lands on the middle of the bow.

3. Place the button onto the glue drop with the fabric side facing up. Apply light pressure for 10 seconds to help seal the glue.

Sewing on the Button

4. Cut a 20-inch piece of thread and thread it through the eye of the needle.

5. Pull the thread through so that the ends meet tie a small knot at the bottom. Place the covered button, loop side down, where you want it on the bow. Insert the needle near the loop on the underside of the bow and pull the needle towards you.

6. Insert the needle into the loop on the back of the button and then again through the bow on the other side, keeping it close to the loop. Pull the thread tight and then bring the needle under the bow fabric back to the other side of the loop on the button.

7. Repeat the process of bringing the needle up from under the bow, through the loop and back down through the bow four times.

8. Tie a knot by threading the needle through the loop one more time, making a two-inch loop with the thread. Bring the needle back through the two-inch loop and pull the thread tight. Cut the thread.
