Making a Minnie Mouse bow is fast and easy.
It is the red fabric covered with white polka dots that makes the Minnie Mouse bow recognizable--and special. You can make the basic bow shape from any fabric or pattern, but you will have to use the correct fabric for people to recognize it as Minnie's. Make this bow using basic sewing supplies and sewing knowledge; in fact, beginners can use this project to improve their sewing skills.
Instructions
1. Measure a piece of fabric twice as wide as you want the bow and about a ½ inch longer. For example, you could cut a rectangle 9 inches wide by 7.5 inches long.
2. Fold the short sides of the fabric together with the printed side, or whatever side you want to be the outside of the bow, toward the inside. This is typically referred to as the "right" side of the fabric. Sew all seams together using a ¼-inch seam allowance. Leave a small 1- or 2-inch gap in one seam. Turn the rectangle right-side out.
3. Fold the raw edges of the gap inside the tube and sew shut. Fold the bow so that the long seam sits in the middle of the rectangle, rather than on one side.
4. Cut one strip of fabric, 3 inches wide and 2 inches long, from the same material. Fold in half with right sides together like you did for the large bow. Sew the long side together using a ¼-inch seam allowance. Turn the tube right side out.
5. Pinch the middle of the bow in half. Wrap the small tube around the middle of the bow. Fold the raw edges of the bow under. Sew the two ends of the tube together. Glue the bow to a headband or barrette.
