Multiribbon hair bows are a stylish addition to any girl's outfit.
Handcrafted multiribbon hair bows are versatile accessories used to adorn a young girl's hair. Ribbons of various textures, colors and designs can be looped and layered to create a full and colorful hair bow. An alligator clip can be attached to the back of the hair bow so it can be worn with ponytails, pigtails or any other desired hairstyle. Multiribbon hair bows can be made in many different styles to match an outfit or fit a holiday event or special occasion. Add your own embellishments to the hair bow to create a personalized accessory for your daughter.
Instructions
1. Measure and cut 3/8-inch grosgrain ribbon into three 4-inch-long strips. Cut small triangles into each of the ribbon ends. Seal the triangle ribbon ends with a coat of clear nail polish to prevent the cut ends from fraying.
2. Overlap two of the 4-inch ribbons to create an X shape. Place a dab of glue in the center of the X to glue the two ribbons together. Overlap and glue the third 4-inch piece of ribbon horizontally across the center of the X. This creates a starburst-type effect.
3. Measure and cut 5/8-inch satin ribbon into three 7-inch-long strips. Pick up the first strip and overlap the ends to create a circle loop. Glue the ends together to secure the loop. Repeat with the other two strips to result in three ribbon loops.
4. Pinch the first loop in the center so that you are holding two layers of ribbon between your thumb and forefinger. The glued ends should be hidden behind your thumb. Glue the pinched section in the center to result in two loops. Repeat this process with the other two 5/8-inch ribbon strips.
5. Glue the three 5/8-inch ribbons on top of the 3/8-inch starburst ribbon piece. Glue the 5/8-inch ribbons in the same manner by creating an X shape with two of the ribbons and placing the third horizontally across the X shape. Ensure that all the glued centers remain in the center of the hair bow.
6. Create three additional 5/8-inch ribbons in a different color or design than the previous ribbons. Repeat the process of gluing the ends together to create loops. Glue the second set of 5/8-inch ribbons on top of the previous 5/8-inch ribbons in the same starburst shape. Shift the second set of ribbons so that they lay in the empty space between the first set.
7. Choose a 1-inch to 2-inch flat wooden cutout to place in the center of the hair bow to hide the glued sections of ribbons. Paint the wooden cutout using craft paint and a paintbrush, or purchase a prepainted wooden cutout. Place several dabs of glue on the back of the wooden cutout, and glue to the center of the hair bow.
8. Flip the hair bow over so that the back of the bow is visible. Place a line of glue along the alligator clip and secure the clip to the back center of the hair bow. Allow a minimum of 24 hours for the hair bow to completely dry.
