Make a shiny hair bow for a holiday party or special event.
Making your own hair bows not only saves money, it allows you to choose any color or design from the wide array of ribbon available at craft and big box stores. Hair bows have come a long way from the days of simply tying a ribbon around a ponytail. Today's bows are large and ornate, often bejeweled with rhinestones or decorated with colorful buttons. Make your bows small or large to fit the size of your child's head.
Instructions
1. Measure and cut three 10-inch lengths of ribbon.
2. Take the first strand of ribbon and overlap the ends by 1/2 inch, forming a loop. Squirt a line of hot glue down the underside of the overlapping edge. Press the top edge against it to form a circle.
3. Pinch the middle of loop at the center to make a classic bow shape. Use a needle and thread to sew the pinched section and secure the bow.
4. Repeat the process with the two other lengths of ribbon.
5. Stack the three bows on top of each other so the centers touch. Fan them out into a pinwheel shape and sew them together in the middle.
6. Run a line of hot glue across the bottom bow and stick it to the barrette base.
