Ballet snoods hold your bun tightly in place while dancing.
Ballerinas are generally required to properly pulled back their hair, away from the face and neck. The most standard hairstyle for a ballerina is a bun, which keeps the hair tightly held in place, with no loose strands flopping around. A traditional bun holder is often referred to as a snood. These can be made simply, in a modest color matching the hair, or more ornate with flowers and sparkles. Using some simple knit stitches, you can quickly stitch up your own ballet snood. As snoods require less than a skein of yarn to create, they are an ideal project for using up your leftover skeins of yarn.
Instructions
1. Cast on 12 stitches with your size 8 knitting needles. Knit the front and back of each stitch across for two rows. You now have 48 stitches on your needle.
2. Switch to size 10 needles. Knit one row. Switch to size 19 needles. Knit three rows.
3. Switch back to the size 10 needles. Knit two rows. Cast off. Weave in any loose ends.
4. Thread the strand of ribbon through the yarn needle. Thread the ribbon through the row knit with the size 19 needles. Pull the ribbon through so it is centered, and tie it into a bow.
