Pony Beads Activities

Pony beads are cheap and abundant. Most craft stores carry them in a variety of colors perfect for any occasion. Because pony beads have a large center hole, even young children can use them to make crafts.

Character Pins

Character pins resemble characters from cartoons, television shows or books. Make them with pony beads, safety pins, synthetic sinew and character patterns.

Pokémon characters, Hello Kitty, "Twilight" apples, Bugs Bunny, Thomas the Tank Engine and Elmo are all good subjects for character pins.

Organizational Key Chains

Key chains made from pony beads are long-lasting, and are perfect as gifts for advancement ceremonies, graduations, school sporting events or fundraisers.

Cub Scout, Boy Scout and Girl Scout emblems are popular key chain items. Scouts can make these key chains for their parents during meetings. This project may even help the scout to earn a badge, belt loop or activity pin.

School-themed key chains are a great way to show support for sports teams, band, drama club or choir. You can also sell them for fundraisers or at concession stands during sporting events, concerts or plays.

Bible School Crafts

Pony beads are perfect for making crafts for Bible class. Choose pony bead colors for their meanings. Gold typically stands for heaven. Black is sin, while red represents Christ's death. White stands for purity of life. Blue means the Holy Spirit, while green represents everlasting life.

Pony bead bracelets and necklaces are easy to make for almost any age, and are appropriate crafts for teenagers. Children enjoy making things that express their beliefs and pony bead crafts do just that.

Christmas Twirl Ornaments

Even preschool children can make Christmas twirl ornaments. Select Christmas-colored pony beads, such as red, blue, green, gold and silver, and string them onto 22-mm jewelry wire. These look great even with random patterns.

Loop the bottom and top of the wire to keep the beads from falling off. Leave about one pony-bead length at the top of the wire before looping the wire. Twist the strand around a pencil, and attach a string at the top to make a beautiful Christmas ornament.
