Add your monogram to a door bow for a personal touch.
The monogram not only personalizes an article but also acts as a simple and elegant decoration. Whether you use a monogrammed bow as a decoration for your front door or as a tie for your hair, you do not need to go to a fancy specialty shop to have your bow personalized. The crafty do-it-yourselfer can add her personal stamp on any ordinary bow and claim it for her own. Display the monogram on the hanging ends or on the center of the bow. Adding a monogram to the bow loops may be difficult because it would be harder to create a workable surface without smashing the loop.
Instructions
1. Purchase a letter stencil or design your own on a word processor. Trace around the stencil using a fine-tipped, colored marker. Use the same color as your paint or a complementary color. Fill in the letter by brushing on fabric paint.
2. Purchase iron-on letters. They come in a variety of textures, sizes and designs. Iron-ons work better with silky or flat ribbons than textured ribbons. Do not try this option on plastic ribbons.
3. Apply the fabric paint with a tipped paint bottle to free-hand your monogram onto the bow. Hold the tip away from the bow to create a rounded line, or press the tip against the fabric to make a flat line.
4. Sew a monogram charm onto the bow. You can place the charm in the center of the bow or on the edges. If the charm does not have an eye-hole, use gold or silver thread to match the charm and whip-stitch over the charm in at least three places to secure it to the bow. If the letter is bulky enough, hot-glue it to the bow.
5. Write the monogram letter using a pencil or pen. Trace over the letter with a line of hot glue. Press rhinestones, beads or buttons into the glue.
