Relieve your dog's diarrhea.
Diarrhea is a common yet treatable problem in dogs. Along with diarrhea, there may be additional symptoms such as flatulence, poor smelling odor, abdominal pain and matted hair beneath your dog's tail. Some of the causes of dog diarrhea include stress, dietary changes, parasites, bacteria, tumors and inflammatory reactions. Relieving your dog's diarrhea can help him get back to normal and feeling better.
Instructions
1. Withhold food from dog for at least 24 hours.
2. Encourage your dog to drink plenty of water. Your dog must stay hydrated. If he refuses to drink water for more than 12 hours, you may need professional care.
3. Boil some chicken without grease, skins or flavors. Cook turkey without grease, skins and flavors. Scrambled eggs without grease or butter, baked potatoes, boiled potatoes and boiled eggs all work well in relieving diarrhea. Give this bland food to your dog after it has fasted for 24 hours.
4. Give your dog Pepto-Bismol or Imodium. They work well if your dog has eaten something that has upset its stomach. Consult a veterinarian for the correct dosage for your dog. If the Pepto-Bismol or Imodium has not resolved the diarrhea within two days, take your dog to the vet.
5. Get your dog a de-wormer i fit has intestinal worms. You can have your vet prescribe the right medication after a stool sample has been tested. In many cases it is necessary to use the de-wormer more than once over several weeks, even months.
6. Give your dog antibiotics if the diarrhea is being caused by bacteria. Bacterias such as clostridia, E. coli, salmonella, and campylobacter can cause diarrhea as well as vomiting in kenneled dogs or dogs with a weak immune system. If your dog gets diarrhea from ulcerative colitis, antibiotics might be needed over the long term.
