Make Tiny Bows for a Baby Chihuahua's Hair
The Chihuahua is considered an "older breed," according to the American Kennel Club, having been registered in the early 1900s. This sassy, highly intelligent breed gained popularity in the early 21st century as a spokesperson for popular companies like Taco Bell and as a trusty sidekick in movies such as "Legally Blonde." Much of the appeal of Chihuahuas comes from the fact that they can be dolled up from head to toe; simple Chihuahua fashions-such as tiny hair bows-can be crafted with ease at home.
Instructions
1. Pass the 4-inch piece of ribbon through the rubber band. Lay the ribbon and band on a table, then center the rubber band behind the ribbon.
2. Fold the ends of the ribbon in, crossing them at the center of the ribbon, over the rubber band. Hold one finger in the center of the ribbon to keep it in place while you adjust the sizes of the loops.
3. Pinch the layers at the center tightly with one hand, leaving the back-half of the rubber band free. With your other hand, wrap the 2-inch piece of wire around the center several times, making the shape into a true bow.
4. Clip the wire short. Fold and angle the wire tip into the center of the bow, if possible, so that no sharp ends are sticking out. Do not leave any wire hanging as it could injure the Chihuahua.
5. Wrap the bow's center with the 2-inch piece of reserved ribbon; this will cover the wire. Glue the end pieces together on the underside of the bow.
6. Trim the bow's end pieces to the desired length. Snip the ends diagonally, or notch the ends decoratively by cutting tiny triangles into them.
