Make the hair bow from layers of colorful tulle for a unique accessory.
Create a large and flamboyant hair accessory from a few strips of tulle for an inexpensive and personalized change from store-bought alternatives. Cut to any length, the hair bows can be made as small or as large as you like, and you can customize the bow with just a few layers of tulle for a little bit of pouf or layer upon layer of tulle ribbon for a hair accessory that everybody will notice.
Instructions
1. Lay the tulle ribbon on your work table and measure about 8 inches. Cut the ribbon at this point. Cut four more 8-inch-long pieces of tulle.
2. Fold one of the strips in half, and sew a stitch or two through the short end to make a loop. Do the same with each of the other strips.
3. Press down on one of the loops to lay it flat and slide the joined ends to the center. Repeat with each loop and then layer the loops on top of one another, with the joined ends in the center.
4. Sew along the center of the tulle to join the layers together, then wrap the thread around the center to pinch the center and form the tulle into a bow shape.
5. Cut a short piece of tulle in a different color, just long enough to wrap around the center of the bow. Spread glue along the short strip, bunch the width together and wrap it around the center of the bow. Sew the ends together with a few stitches to keep it attached.
6. Spread glue on the back of the bow and press it firmly against the hair clip or headband. To attach the bow to a hair elastic, sew stitches through the back, center of the bow and into the fabric of the elastic.
7. Fluff up all of the layers of the tulle on each side of the bow.
