Make Baby Clippies Or Hair Bows

Make pretty hair bows with clips and ribbons.

Making hair bows and baby clippies can be rewarding whether you are making them for a daughter or to give as a gift. Making hair bows or baby clippies yourself allows you to be as imaginative as you want, creating one-of-a-kind hair accessories while spending less money than you would for pre-made versions.

Instructions

Baby Clippie

1. Cut one piece of ribbon to 4 1/2 inches. Cut another to 3 1/2 inches. Cut the last piece to 1 1/2 inches. Seal all the ends of the ribbons using the lighter or wood-burning tool. This keeps the ribbon from fraying at the ends.

2. Take the 4 1/2-inch ribbon and hold it in your hand 1 1/4 inches from the end of the ribbon. Place glue on the ribbon up to where you are holding it. (If you are using a printed ribbon, put the glue on the non-printed side.) Glue the ribbon to the bottom of the prong of the alligator clip. Fold over the rest of the material and glue it on the opposite side so that you are wrapping the top prong.

3. Add glue to the inside of the pinch part of the clip on both the top and bottom. Take the ribbon and tightly wrap it around the pinch part. This is the first part of the clippie hair bow.

4. Take the 3 1/2 inch ribbon and wrap it in a circle. Glue the ends together. Place a small bead of glue on the inside of the connected piece of ribbon and press down firmly. This will become the bow that will be placed on top the clippie.

5. Place a bead of glue, using your glue gun, on the bottom of the ribbon in the center. Place it in the middle of the clippie and press down firmly.

6. Open the alligator clip upside down and place some glue in the middle of the ribbon. Wrap the remaining 1 1/2-inch-long ribbon around the middle of the bow and secure it firmly to the glue on the ribbon.

7. Lay a piece of ribbon 30 inches long on a table. Take the left end of the ribbon in your left hand and the right end of the ribbon in your right hand. Bring each end up and place the left side over the right side of the ribbon, making a cross with a loop at the top. Measure the bottom ribbons from the cross-over to make sure that there is 1/2 inch of ribbon on each side. This will ensure that the loop at the top is even.

8. Use the alligator clip on the loop. Open the clip and place it in the center of the loop, while moving the loop toward the cross over of the ribbons in the center. Clip the center of the loop to the middle of the cross over. Now there will be a small loop on each side of the alligator clip.

9. Fold the left-side bottom ribbon over the center of the bow where the alligator clip is, and do the same with the right side. Readjust the alligator clip to hold all of the folds in the center. You will have four small loops with the two ends hanging down.

10. Tie a piece of thread in the middle of the bow where the alligator clip is. Tie the piece of thread tightly so that the bow is compressed in the middle. Glue the bow to the alligator clip to complete the bow.
