Simple To Make Hairbow Ribbon Project

Ribbons can be made into numerous decorative hair-bow projects, usually requiring no more than glue and/or wire, ribbons and some sort of hair clip or combs. Hair-bows can be simple ties or elaborate with loops. Wearing homemade hair-bows makes fixing hair fun. Moreover, they make every hairstyle uniquely yours. All they require is a little time and imagination. And for little girls at a birthday party, creating hair-bows can be an enjoyable activity.

Ribbon Combs

Make this for a single comb or with a pair of combs that can be pushed together, crimping the hair between. Use a long ribbon and a spool of thin craft wire. When finished, the hair-bow will look like a straight, rippling bow, the sort often used on Christmas packages. Start with the ribbon at one end, leaving as much trailing as desired. Fold a loop by the comb's first tine and wrap wire around the loop and the comb's edge. This fixes down one loop. Make another loop and wrap it down. Make the loops as close together as you wish. Close will be fuller, but will also require more ribbon. Continue making loops down the length of the comb. At the end, you'll have another trailing section of ribbon. Cut to desired length. Make a second comb if you plan to use them together, or to have matching combs for both sides of your hair.

Button Flower

Cut the ribbon into three equal lengths, approximately six or seven inches long. Fold a ribbon to find the middle. Then fold both ends to meet in the middle and either glue or sew them into place. Do this for all three ribbons. These will be the petals of your flower. Stack the ribbons on top of each other, spreading them around so that you have a six-loop--petaled flower. Now sew a button over the center. Finally, glue this onto a barrette back.

Rainbow Streamers

Make this with either a comb or barrette. Use narrow ribbon in all the colors of the rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple). Their widths together should match the width of the comb or barrette. Cut the pieces of ribbon as long as you like. This will be the length in which they dangle in your hair. So if you have long hair, you may want long streamers. Wrap the end of the streamer around the top of the comb or around the solid part of the barrette and sew or glue it. Do this for all the ribbons, in the proper color order. That's it. However, you could glue on something more decorative across the top the comb or barrette when finished, such as a strip of marabou, some small silk flowers or even colorful gems or beads.
