Curl Korker Ribbon

Korker ribbons hold a spiral shape in a hair bow.

Korker ribbons provide a corkscrew of creativity for your hair. Korker ribbons appear in the ponytails of preschoolers and pep squad members alike, lending a little extra pizzazz to an ordinary hairstyle. If you want to save the cost of purchasing expensive boutique-style hair bows, learn to make your own. Cook up a recipe for success when you learn to curl korker ribbons in your oven at home and use them in a variety of hairstyle creations.

Instructions

1. Preheat your oven to 200 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking sheet with tin foil and set it aside.

2. Cut 1 yard of 1/4-inch grosgrain ribbon in your choice of colors. Cut a dowel rod to be slightly smaller than the length of your baking sheet.

3. Line up one end of the ribbon with the end of your dowel rod and clamp it in place with a wooden clothespin.

4. Wrap the ribbon around the dowel rod, spiraling the ribbon down as you go. Wrap it with space between each wrap or wrap the ribbon so the edges touch; the options are open to your preferences.

5. Clamp the other end of the ribbon onto the dowel rod with another clothespin to hold it in place. Make sure the entire ribbon lies flat around the dowel rod, hugging the rod as it twists around.

6. Run the dowel rod with ribbon on it under the sink until it is fully dampened. Gently shake off the excess water.

7. Spray the ribbon and rod with liquid starch until you have covered all the ribbon in a thin layer. Place the dowel onto the baking sheet and put it into the oven.

8. Bake the ribbon for 20 to 25 minutes. Remove it after 20 minutes; if it is dry after one more minute, then it is finished. If it is still damp, bake it for a few more minutes or allow it to air dry completely.

9. Gently remove the clothespins from the dowel rod and slide the ribbon downward off the rod, preserving its spiral shape. Let it cool entirely before using it in a hair bow project.
