Items To Sew For Any Baby

A baby needs lots of things, from clothing to bedding and toys. The cost of these can add up quite quickly and one may be not be able to afford everything they want or need. Perhaps you just want something personal for your baby or to give as a gift. There are lots of items you can sew for a baby quite easily that the baby and mother will greatly appreciate.

Fabric Play Blocks

Make some toy blocks out of fabric. All you need is six square pieces of fabric all the same size, some cotton batting, a needle, thread, and something with a crinkle sound to it, such as the bag that holds the cereal inside the box, which you can put behind the fabric to add an interactive element to the toy. You can create a whole set of blocks in different sizes or various blocks with a variety of fabrics and patterns. Another idea is to put the child's name onto a fabric panel and use this to make the blocks personalized.

Bibs

Bibs are definitely needed when a baby begins to eat solid foods to avoid getting everything on his clothes. Make some baby bibs out of any fabric or even out of cloth placemats. These can be customized however you see fit and even in unique shapes and designs. For attaching around the neck you can use velcro, snaps or tie ribbons.

Blanket or Quilt

Every baby needs a couple of blankets or quilts. Homemade blankets and quilts are not only functional but also serve as keepsakes that parents can keep for several years as a childhood memory or give to the child once they are older and want things from their childhood.

Shoes and Booties

Shoes are very expensive and with children growing out of all their things so quickly it seems silly to spend a fortune on such an item. Make some baby shoes or booties. These can be knit with yarn, sewn with fabric and leather soles or even made out of felt. Be creative with the style and don't forget sandals or flip flops for the summer if the child will be outdoors.

Diapers

Using cloth diapers can save a lot of money for someone trying to cut their child expenses and they're more eco-friendly for a green mama. Make a set of cloth diapers. Find a style pattern you like on the internet and print it. Flannel and jersey cotton are smart choices of fabric because they're durable, easy to clean and soft on baby's skin. To secure you can use snaps or velcro depending on your preference and diaper design.
