Create A Korker Hairbow

Heating tightly wrapped ribbon creates korker ribbon.

Korker ribbon hair bows are hair bows made of tightly curled ribbons. Make korker hair bows out of ribbon that's only tightly curled, or use a combination of korker ribbon and straight ribbon for more depth and texture. Create korker hair bows to match specific outfits or holidays. Make multiple korker hair bows in the same colors for sports teams, cheer teams or clubs. Learn make these hair bows and sell them at consignment shops, boutiques, craft shows and bazaars, or make them as gifts for friends and family members.

Instructions

1. Preheat your oven to 275 degrees Fahrenheit.

2. Hold the 3/8-inch ribbon to the end of the wooden dowel and hold it in place with a clothes pin. Wrap the ribbon around the dowel tightly. Continue wrapping the ribbon until you reach the end of the dowel. Secure the ribbon to the end of the dowel with another clothes pin, and cut off any excess ribbon with a sharp pair of scissors.

3. Place your dowel in a disposable foil pan and put it in the oven for 25 minutes. Remove the pan from the oven, and let the dowel cool for a few hours.

4. Take the clothes pins off of the dowel, and unroll the ribbon from the dowel. The ribbon will remain curled.

5. Thread a sewing needle with embroidery floss. Tie a knot about 3-inches from the end of your embroidery floss. Slide the needle through the first korker ribbon, leaving the ribbon on the end of the needle closest to the eye. Add another korker ribbon, turning it slightly, so it's not lined straight up with the first. Continue adding ribbons until you have the amount you want to use or until the needle is full.

6. Push all the korker ribbon down the thread to the knot. Pass the needle through the korker ribbons and out the other side, making sure you're not going through the same hole made when you threaded the korker ribbons the first time. Remove the needle, and pick up the excess floss on both ends. Tie the floss together tightly, making several knots to secure the korker piece. Cut away the excess floss.

7. Cut a piece of 3/8-inch ribbon that's not curled to the same length as an alligator hair clip. Lay a line of hot glue along the top of the alligator clip, and lay the ribbon on top of the clip. Tuck the sides under the clip and glue in place.

8. Hold your korker pieces on top of an alligator hair clip. Wind embroidery floss around the korker pieces and the top piece of the alligator clip, making sure not to catch the ends of the korker ribbons in the floss. Continue adding korker pieces until you have the desired fullness. Tie the embroidery floss in knots under the alligator clip. Add a small dab of hot glue to hold the floss tightly to the clip, and to secure the knots.
