Polka Us dot Crafts

Add style to your craft projects with polka dots

Polka dot patterns have been around for years. You can design just about anything in polka dots with various colors or sizes. Polka dot patterns can be added to hair bows, clothing, furniture, jewelry or even scrapbook pages to make distinctive crafts. A polka dot pattern fits any child or adult's personal style.

Bangle Bracelets

Bangle bracelets are inexpensive to purchase and are available in most stores. They are made of plastic and can be painted with designs to enhance their look and style. Acrylic or puff paint works well for this type of project. Dip the tip of a small paintbrush into the paint and dab on polka dots onto the bangle. Create your polka dotted bangle to match your outfit. Add as few or many polka dots as you wish.

Dotted Eggs

Make polka dot eggs for Easter or any other occasion to enhance a party. Apply small dot stickers to hard-boiled eggs at room temperature. Use Easter egg coloring tablets in several cups according to the directions on the box. Each manufacturer has different directions for egg coloring. Submerge each egg until the desired brightness of color is reached. Pull the eggs out of the dye and let them air-dry. The polka dot stickers can be applied after dying as well. Allow the eggs to dry completely before applying the stickers.

Furniture

Dressers, nightstands or similar wood cabinets can be painted in polka dot patterns. Apply a primer with a brush to your cabinet and the drawers. Allow the layer to dry. Paint your cabinet and drawers with latex paint. Depending on the color you may need to apply a couple of coats. Allow the paint to dry between coats. Use acrylic paint and a small paintbrush to make polka dots all over your cabinet. Or, you can air brush the dots with stencils to create a sharper edge on your polka dots.

Hair Bows

Hair bows are made using ribbon, thread and a clip. Grosgrain ribbon comes in a large variety of colors and patterns. Polka dotted ribbon is available and can be made into small bows for children or pets. The wide ribbon works best for larger bows. Cut a 6-inch strip of polka dotted ribbon. Overlap the ends and use a needle and thread to come up through the overlapping ends and through the opposite side, or front, of the bow. Wrap the thread around the middle to compress it together like an accordion and create the simple-looking bow. Tie off the thread. Add a small strip of ribbon around the middle to cover the thread. Glue a hair clip to the back.
