Watch the candy and confetti fall when your pinata bursts.
Make a Minnie Mouse-shaped pinata, featuring a signature pink bow and long black eyelashes, to brighten the eyes of everyone at your daughter's next party. The excitement of bursting the pinata so the candy, confetti and small treats rain down on the group brings joy to young children. Place a large sheet of plastic beneath the Minnie Mouse pinata so the participants can gather the items easier. You can toss the remnants in the trash.
Instructions
1. Mix 1 cup of flour and 3 cups of water in the plastic container with the wooden spoon. Set the paper mache paste aside.
2. Fold one sheet of newspaper in half horizontally. Tear the newspaper into 1-inch wide strips. Fold and tear strips until you have a pile approximately the same size as the plastic butter container holding the paper mache paste.
3. Inflate the latex balloon, and tie a knot in the opening. Dip a strip of newspaper in the paste, and squeeze off excess paste with your fingers. Place the strip across the balloon, and continue until you have an entire layer of overlapping strips covering the balloon.
4. Let the first layer dry, and then add three more layers of newspaper, letting the paste on the newspaper dry in between layers. Each layer will take approximately eight hours to dry. Use a craft knife to cut out a hole that is large enough to insert candy and small toys into the top backside of the paper mache ball. Cut the balloon to deflate it and remove.
5. Draw a large circle at the top and a large oval at the bottom on the front of the paper mache ball for a face outline. Paint the inside of the outline in beige and the rest of the ball in black.
6. Draw two 4-inch diameter circles on the cardboard, and cut these out. Paint the cardboard circles black, and use hot glue to stick these on the top of the ball for Minnie's ears. Tie the ribbon into a large bow, and glue onto the front of the ears with the hot glue.
7. Paint the eyes and smile onto the face of the pinata using the white and black paint. Add long eyelashes pointing upward from the eyes.
8. Cover the back hole by hot gluing a piece of pink streamer along one edge and sticking it over the hole as a flap. Cut 12-inch long pieces of streamer, and glue them to the bottom edge of the pinata. Glue a 36-inch long thin ribbon onto the top of the pinata to hang Minnie Mouse.
9. Fill the pinata with candy and small toys. Hang it from a tree limb or tall structure, and let people take turns hitting at it with a bat or stick.
