Diy Sequined Hair Bows

Cover the hair bow with rows of different color sequins.

Add some glitz and glamor to your hair accessories with a complete coating of sequins. Make a hair bow from a simple piece of ribbon and adorn the ribbon with row upon row of sequins before shaping it into a feminine-looking bow tie. The sequined hair bow can be added to any plastic, metal or fabric hair accessory, such as metal hair clips, hair elastics or fabric headbands. Customize the size of the bow to suit your personality, from a tiny, single-color sequined bow to add a little bit of flair, to an enormous multicolor sequined bow to show off your flamboyant personality.

Instructions

1. Cut a 6-inch-long piece of 1 1/2-inch-wide ribbon. Cut another piece of the same ribbon that measures about 1 inch long.

2. Lay the two pieces of ribbon on your work surface and treat the ends with a fray-stop treatment. Let the treatment dry.

3. Lay a row of sequins along the short end of the longer piece of ribbon. Lay the sequins so the sides just barely overlap. Use clear thread to sew from the underside of the ribbon, through the center of one sequin and back to the underside of the ribbon, just beside the end of the sequin. Repeat to sew the next sequin to the ribbon without breaking the thread. Repeat to attach the entire row of sequins.

4. Lay the next row of sequins next to the first and attach these sequins to the ribbon in the same manner. Repeat to cover the entire ribbon with sequins.

5. Fold the other piece of ribbon in half and sew along the long edge to keep the fold. Cover one side of the ribbon in sequins in the same way as the longer ribbon.

6. Bring the ends of the long ribbon together, overlapped just slightly and sew the overlapping section together. Press down on the overlapping section to create a two-loop bow and sew through the two layers.

7. Wrap the thread around the sequined center of the bow to pull the center inward and form a bow shape. Wrap the short piece of ribbon around the center and sew the ends of the short piece together.

8. Spread glue on the top of a metal or plastic hair clip, barrette or headband and press the hair bow down firmly in the glue. When attaching the sequined hair bow to a headband or other fabric hair accessory, sew the center of the bow to the fabric instead.
