Don't sizzle in the sun all day. Slather on the SPF and wear a cute beach cover-up.
Spending all day at the beach relaxing on the sand, body surfing, searching for seashells are all relaxing and enjoyable. Using an old baggy T-shirt as a cover-up when you run up the boardwalk is not so much fun. Recycle a plain, baggy T-shirt and transform it into a cute beach cover-up with a few clips of the scissors.
Instructions
1. Fold your T-shirt in half down the center, matching the sleeves, shoulder and neckline seams. Press the fold line in place.
2. Cut the sleeves into tiny cap sleeves. With the sleeves pressed flat together, cut at an angle from the armpit to 2-inches from the shoulder's edge.
3. Cut the neck collar off the shirt. You can use this band later for a headband or ponytail holder. With the shirt still folded in half, cut a deeper V- or U-shape neckline.
4. Cut the hemmed band off the bottom of the T-shirt. Do not cut on the stitching line but just a bit above it. This will be the belt for your beach cover-up.
5. Put on the T-shirt and decide where you'd like to belt it; at your waist, your hips or a high (empire) waist. Tie the belt in place and pin it to the shirt. Untie the belt and take off the shirt.
6. Fold the shirt in half where the placement of the belt is marked with the pins, and iron to make a crease. Unpin the belt from the shirt. Cut 10 pairs of slits (five in front and five in back) around the shirt on the crease where the belt will go. Do not make these slits large since they will stretch when you feed the belt through. Cut them about 1/4 the size of the belt you'll be feeding through them.
7. Cut the bottom band of the T-shirt into one long strip. If it's a T-shirt with side seams, just cut on a seam; if not, cut anywhere. Jersey fabric won't unravel, so the ends of your belt can be left unfinished.
8. Thread the fabric belt through the slits. The slits you made should be fairly small, so use the points of the scissors to push a bit of fabric through the slit and then pull it through.
9. Put on your beach cover-up, tie the belt, and you're ready to hit the sand.
