Use fabric to create a fluffy hair clip.
After a few quilts or other sewing projects featuring cotton fabric, you most likely have a sizable stash of fabric scraps in odd shapes and sizes that you can't bear to throw away, but aren't quite sure use them. Gather up all those colorful scraps to create a playful hair accessory for your family or friends by turning them into a raggy bow. If you don't have fabric scraps, you can still make this pom-pom-like hair accessory with a fresh cut of fabric from the fabric store.
Instructions
1. Cut 30 1-inch by 4-inch strips of fabric with pinking shears. The shears give the strips a decorative edge that also prevents them from fraying over time.
2. Cut a 4-inch piece of floral wire with wire snips. Lay the wire horizontally oriented on your work surface.
3. Pile the fabric strips on the wire vertically oriented with the wire under the center of the strips. Wrap the wire around the pile as tightly as possible as many times as possible before twisting the ends together on what will be the back of the bow.
4. Pinch open the alligator clip and slide the top arm of the clip under the wire on the back of the bow. Hold the clip in one hand while you ruffle the fabric strips with the other.
5. Hang the bow from a metal coat hanger by clipping the alligator clip on the hanger so the bow is upside-down. Spray the strips with fabric stiffener and leave the bow to dry overnight if you want to bow to be less floppy, otherwise skip the stiffener.
