Design Ideas for Setting Up a 10X10 Craft Booth


One of the best compliments any crafter or artist can get is to have someone purchase their handmade items. Whether this is your first foray into marketing your products, or if you've been doing fairs for years, the display you set up in your craft booth is the most important part of selling your designs. Usually 10 x 10, this space is all you have to use to display your products.


Use the Space Wisely


Don't be limited to flat tables. The best displays make total use of the space provided, including vertically. Make the display work for your craft. For example, bring jewelry to eye level by using louvered shutters to hold earrings or necklaces. Place four foot high bookshelves on top of tables to give more height and display space. Raise items so customers don't have to bend down to look at them.


Make signage stand out so that customers can easily identify your booth. Signs with prices, special payment instructions and any unique information you wish for customers to see should be clear, concise and large enough to be understood at a glance. Remember to use the vertical space in your booth as well as the horizontal for signage to draw attention to your area.


Create a Theme


Divide the display of your handmade items by creating themes within your set up. Separate by holiday, season, color or use. For example, during a winter craft show, place your winter or Christmas items towards the front of your display to bring in your customers. Then group items that can be used during other times of the year by season so that a customer can see what is available.


Keep the theme pertinent to what your item is. Displaying Northwoods crafts on lace or in a Victorian-looking display would not compliment the bears, pine trees and wood usually contained in this type of craft. Displaying it in a lodge-like setting filled with light colored wood and flannel patterns compliments the items.


Flow is Important


The flow of your booth space is important. You want customers to be able to comfortably see what you have to offer. Placing your display in an "L" or "U" shape allows a customer to enter, walk around your space and then easily exit near the check-out area.


Simple and Appropriate


A cluttered display can cause you to lose customers. Keep your display simple and appropriate for your items. Limit the amount of "extras" you might want to use. Your customers should have an instant idea what is for sale in your booth. For example, if you are selling beaded utensils placing them near a dinner place setting would work well as it shows how they should be used. However, putting them in a decorative vase or on a mirror pedestal would deflect from their purpose.
