Create A Loopy Hair Bow

Loopy hair bows are not very different from other types of hair bows; the main difference is that loopy bows do not have the tails you may see on other types of bows. These bows are unique because the design uses many loops to create the "loopy" effect. Any size ribbon, in any color or fabric, is suitable for making a loopy ribbon.

Instructions

1. Choose your ribbons with your design style in mind. Mix prints with patterns, textured ribbon with satin, or stick with one type of ribbon in a few different colors. You can use all different sizes, or use all the same size ribbons. Experiment a little by grouping the ribbons together to see how they look before buying them. Be sure to wind the ribbon back up before your final selection. Play until you feel it's right.

2. Measure your ribbons to two and a half feet each. Consider doubling up on the skinnier ribbons so you will be able to see them if you are using other busier patterns.

3. Lightly touch up the ends of each ribbon strip with a clear coat of nail polish to prevent fraying. Allow the polish to dry.

4. Gather the ends of the ribbon up with a clothes pin or clamp at one end.

5. Dismantle your metal hair clip. (Do not fret, it is as easy to put it back together as it is to take it apart.) Take the large top portion of the clip, and clamp it down with the other clothes pin; about three inches from the ends of the ribbon you just secured with your first clothes pin.

6. Wrap craft wire three or four times around the ribbon and metal top part of your clip to secure the ribbon to the metal piece.

7. Bring the loose ribbon up to form a loop with your fingers, keep it tight by holding it in place. Secure the loop to the metal piece by wrapping the wire several times around the base of the loop.

8. Repeat step seven, making sure your next loop is approximately the same size as the previous one. Repeat all the steps until you get all the way to the end of your metal clip piece.

9. Cut the wire and tie it off to secure it. Use a little dab of glue from your glue gun to keep it from coming loose if you wish. You can just tie the wire off if you do have a glue gun.

10. Pull the loops out and apart until you have feathered out your accessory. Reattach the metal hair barrette.
