Make your own mini hair bows to match any outfit.
The basic process of making a mini hair bow is not difficult and can be completed in minutes by even novice crafters. Creating hair bows at home allows you to easily match hair accessories to your wardrobe. The supplies needed for this project can be found in any craft store and are usually inexpensive. Once you learn make a mini hair bow, experiment with different types of ribbon to make a large variety of bows in a range of sizes.
Instructions
1. Cut a rectangle measuring 1 inch by 3 inches from a piece of cardboard.
2. Cut a 1/4-inch-wide notch into one of the 1-inch sides of the cardboard. Extend the notch approximately halfway through the length of the cardboard.
3. Cut a 4-inch length of 3/8-inch ribbon.
4. Lay the ribbon horizontally on your work surface. Place the piece of cardboard on the center of the ribbon with the notch in the cardboard pointing away from you. You should be able to glimpse a piece of the ribbon through the notch in the cardboard.
5. Cross the left and right ends of the ribbon over the cardboard to form an "x."
6. Thread a piece of elastic thread underneath through the notch in the cardboard and under the ribbon. Bring both ends forward over the "x" through the notch in the cardboard.
7. Wrap the elastic tightly around the ribbon at the center of the "x" four or five times so that the ribbon gathers at the center.
8. Tie a knot in the elastic at the center of the "x" and slide the ribbon up off of the cardboard. The ribbon should now look like a small bow.
9. Wrap a 1/8-inch-wide ribbon around the center of the bow to cover the elastic. Hot glue the ribbon into place.
10. Hot glue the hair bow to a small barrette so that you can wear it in your hair.
