Add pizzazz to a ponytail with a korker ribbon.
Many girls love to accessorize a ponytail with korker ribbons. The spiraled ribbons dancing atop the gathered hair of a ponytail adds a colorful statement to any outfit. Using simple household items, you can make ribbons hold their spiral and create ponytail korkers to match any color scheme. Add these fun hair accessories to your wardrobe or give korker ponytail holders as gifts to others.
Instructions
1. Cut 1 yard of your grosgrain ribbon. Clasp one end of the ribbon strand to the end of a wooden dowel with a clothespin. Twist the ribbon around the dowel, leaving no space between each spiral. Clasp the bottom of the ribbon to the dowel with another clothespin. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil. Place the ribbon-wrapped dowel on the baking sheet. Bake the ribbon on the dowel for 20 minutes at 200 degrees in order to set the spirals.
2. Pull the cooled ribbons off the dowel. Cut to the desired length for the ponytail holder. Treat both ends of each ribbon with a no-fray solution, which can be purchased at most craft stores. Lay a piece of embroidery floss vertically on a work surface. Lay the korker ribbons horizontally over the embroidery floss with the ends lined up. Measure the ribbon length and slide the floss to the center of the ribbon stack. Pick up both ends of the floss and gather the ribbons together as you tie a tight double knot.
3. Tie the loose ends of the embroidery floss around the ponytail holder in a double knot. Trim the excess embroidery floss. Secure the knot with a dab of glue from a hot glue gun. Set the korker in place against the top of a ponytail holder. Wrap the rest of the ponytail holder around the hair until the ponytail is securely in place and the korker sits on the top of the ponytail.
