A ladybug can serve as the inspiration for a pretty hair bow.
Bows, flowers and garden bugs sit prettily in little girls' hair as boutique hairpieces. Made to match virtually any outfit color, a collection of boutique bows can embellish a little girl's hair beautifully. Instead of purchasing these bows readymade, save some money and try making your own. With a few supplies and a little time, you could even make a single ladybug snap clip hair bow for your little princess.
Instructions
1. Cut a 4-inch and 3-inch piece of red ribbon. Apply a line of seam sealant along all four raw edges of the two pieces of ribbon. Allow the seam sealant to dry.
2. Add black dots to the red ribbon pieces using the black puffy fabric paint. Make the dots about 1/8-inch in diameter and space the dots evenly over the ribbon pieces. Allow the fabric paint to dry completely before proceeding.
3. Cut a 3-inch piece of black, light green or dark green ribbon to line the snap clip. Apply a line of seam sealant to the raw edges and allow it to dry.
4. Open the snap clip. Place glue onto the back of the ribbon and cover the clip from the inside edge of the top of the clip, over the top and around to the bottom of the clip. Stop the ribbon about 1/2 inch from the front edge of the clip on the bottom. Allow the glue to dry.
5. Cut a 1-inch piece of black ribbon for the antennae. Apply seam sealant to the edges of the ribbon and allow the seam sealant to dry. Cut out the thin antennae. Position the scissors at one short edge of the ribbon about 1/16 inch away from a long edge. Cut parallel to the long edge about 3/5 inch and stop cutting. Make another parallel cut the same length along the other long edge. Cut vertically between the two parallel cuts 2/5 inch from the other short edge (this cut is parallel to the short edges) to make the base of the antennae. Apply seam sealant to all the raw edges you just cut and allow it to dry.
6. Bring the ends of the 4-inch red ribbon together to make a loop. Overlap the ends and glue them in place with the glue gun. Repeat the same process with the 3-inch red ribbon. Allow the glue to dry.
7. Place the 3-inch red ribbon loop beneath the 4-inch red ribbon loop, aligning the ends perfectly. Glue the loops together at the ends and allow the glue to dry. This creates the ladybug body.
8. Cut a 1-inch piece of black ribbon and apply seam sealant to the raw edges. Allow the seam sealant to dry. Wrap the black ribbon around the glued end of the ladybug body and glue the ends of the black ribbon to the underside of the ladybug's body. This creates the ladybug head.
9. Glue the prepared antennae to the top of the lined snap clip so the antennae point off the front of the clip. Glue the ladybug to the clip over the base of the antennae. Allow the glue to dry.
