Once you master the art of making ribbon rosettes, you can use them in a multitude of ways. Sew them onto a hair clip and put them in your daughter's hair. Glue them onto a decorative box or vase to add a three-dimensional touch to the finished gift. Use them as gift toppers, or even to decorate the pews at a wedding. Ribbon rosettes can be large or tiny, depending on the size and amount of the ribbon that you use.
Instructions
1. Cut approximately 1.5 yards of ribbon; you may not need this much, but you can always cut off the excess at the end of the project. Hold the ribbon out in front of you, flat up on a table so the length stretches out sideways.
2. Bring the left end of the ribbon down to form a right angle like a carpenter's square; the tail hanging down from the left end should be 2 inches long, with the rest of the ribbon's yardage still pointed straight out to the right.
3. Bring the right end of the ribbon toward the fold and wrap it tightly around the fold three or four times; this will start to form the shape of a flower "bud" in the center. Let the rest of the ribbon's yardage continue to lie straight out to the right.
4. Bend the right end of the ribbon down toward the back in the opposite motion from the one you made in Step 2. Wrap this folded length of ribbon around the center bud clockwise to begin forming the outer petals.
5. Continue to fold and wrap the petals as in Step 4. Stop when you have approximately 2 inches of your ribbon left.
6. Bring the final tail of ribbon down to meet the initial tail. Twist them together and wrap floral wire around them. Use extra floral wire to attach the rosette to something, such as a wrapped gift or a hair clip.
