Make fabric scrunchies to match every outfit.
Fabric scrunchies have stayed popular through the decades and remain a favorite hair accessory among girls and women of all ages. A fabric scrunchie will not only hold your hair back in style because you can match the fabric to your outfit, but the fabric of the scrunchie will not pull or damage your hair in the way that some elastic bands do. Gather a few basic supplies and make a collection of fabric scrunchies in colors to match your wardrobe.
Instructions
1. Cut a six-inch by 20-inch strip of fabric with the scissors. Cut a six-inch-long piece of elastic.
2. Fold the strip of fabric in half lengthwise with the right sides facing in. Iron the folded fabric to make it neat and crisp.
3. Sew the long edge of the folded fabric with the sewing machine with a quarter-inch seam allowance. Press the seam open with the iron.
4. Turn the fabric tube right side out and press it again with the iron.
5. Insert the piece of elastic into the fabric tube. Hold the end of the elastic that extends out of the tube securely so you do not lose it within the tube. Continue feeding the elastic through the tube until the other end of the elastic comes out the other end of the fabric tube---the fabric tube will scrunch considerably as you insert the elastic through the tube (hence the name).
6. Overlap the two ends of the elastic to create a ring and stitch the ends together securely with the sewing machine (sew back and forth three to four times to make sure the elastic does not come apart).
7. Position the ends of the fabric tube over the elastic, turning in the raw edges of the fabric tube on both ends. Overlap the ends of the fabric tube to conceal the raw edges of fabric and stitch through the tube to finish the fabric scrunchie (you will be stitching through the elastic as you stitch the fabric tube ends in place).
