Show your team spirit with a cheerleading hair bow.
Create professional-looking cheer bows to wear in your hair for a fraction of the cost of having the hair bows custom made from a specialty shop. The bows are simple to make and you can customize the size according to your preferences. Make a larger bow to wear at the top of a ponytail, or make two smaller cheer bows to embellish pig tails. Add the team's emblem to one side of each bow for a hair bow full of team spirit.
Instructions
1. Cut a 12-inch-long piece of the 1 1/2-inch-wide grosgrain or satin ribbon. Sew the ends of the ribbon together and press down on the center to make a bow shape.
2. Sew a few stitches through the center of the bow shape and wrap the thread around the center and pull to make the accordion-like center.
3. Cut a 10-inch-long piece of the same type of ribbon and then cut another 1 1/2-inch-long piece.
4. Fold the 10-inch-long piece in half to find the center and hold that center against the center of the bow shape. Sew a few stitches to join the ribbon tails to the bow.
5. Fold the 1 1/2-inch-long piece in half and wrap it around the middle of the bow. Sew the ends of the piece together behind the center of the ribbon tails.
6. Cut triangular shapes from the ends of the ribbon tails and cover the cut ends with a little bit of a fray-stop treatment.
7. Pin a small appliqué patch of the team's emblem to one of the bow's loops. Sew the emblem in place.
8. Spread some hot glue along the barrette or other hair clip and press the back of the bow against the glue. Let the glue dry for at least 20 to 30 minutes.
