Shrink An Additional Large Shirt

Shrink your extra large shirt to obtain a perfect fit.

You finally found that perfect shirt in your preferred style and color, only to discover that it's a size or two too large. Perhaps you purchased the shirt from an online website without trying it on, they were sold out of your exact size at a clothing store or you received it as a gift. Rather than returning the shirt to the store, consider shrinking it in the washing machine and dryer to obtain a more flattering fit.

Instructions

1. Check the label of your shirt to make sure that it's not already preshrunk. If the shirt is already preshrunk, it is unlikely that it will shrink much more.

2. Place your shirt in the washing machine, along with the regular amount of laundry detergent. Set the washing machine for a small load and the highest possible water temperature for maximum shrinkage. If the water temperature in your residence is less than 130 degrees Fahrenheit, add boiling water to the washing machine to increase the temperature. Allow the washing machine to run a full cycle. Do not wash any other clothes with your shirt.

3. Put the washed shirt in the dryer and set it at the highest temperature. Let the shirt dry for a longer than normal cycle. Allow the shirt to cool before removing it from the dryer.

4. Iron the shirt with a very hot iron, but don't pull the iron outward along the fabric, as this may stretch the shirt.
