Hair falls are the ultimate in easy, fun hairpieces. They're easy to put in, run the gamut from natural to "out-there," and a breeze to make. For a funky, punky set of hair falls, consider using yarn instead of synthetic hair. Yarn comes in all sorts of colors and textures, is affordable, and will give you hair that nature could never provide. Wear your falls clubbing, to a party or the mall; you're sure to get a lot of looks.

Making your hair falls
1. Cut your yarn twice as long as you want your fall to hang. You will be doubling each strand, so if you want a 12-inch fall, cut each strand of yarn 24 inches long. One easy way to do this is to cut a rectangle of cardboard so the long sides are the desired length of your fall. You can then just wrap the yarn around and around the length of the cardboard. Continue adding colors and strands until you've got a bunch as thick as you'd like your fall to be.
2. Slip your loops of yarn off the cardboard (if you used it) and cut through them at one end. You'll end up with a bunch of individual strands of yarn.
3. Drape the strands over your hand, so that you're holding the middle of the bunch. You can take this time to even up the ends, if you'd like.
4. Slip a hair elastic under the middle of the strands (where they're draped over your hand). Slide one end of the elastic into the other, so that the elastic forms a loop around the fall. Pull to tighten.
5. Hold the elastic loop in one hand, and gather the top of the fall together. Use another elastic to bundle both sides of the fall together. This will make the fall look like a ponytail, rather than two bunches of yarn.
6. Shake out the fall, and fine tune it as you please. You can even up the ends, leave them jagged, fluff up textured yarn with a brush or your hands, even mat them together and felt them to make dreads. Chunky wooden beads make a nice addition to yarn falls, as do bows pinned to the strands.
7. Repeat the process for the other fall, and you're ready to go.
