Use ribbon to create a beautiful ponytail holder for your daughter.
Purchasing ponytail holders for your daughter or team at an accessories store is often pricey and they do not always come in preferred color choices and combinations. As an alternative to expensive store-bought ponytail holders, use satin or sheer ribbon in your daughter's favorite hues or in her school colors to create a ponytail holder that is both beautiful and economical.
Instructions
Tied Ribbon Ponytail Holder
1. Select satin, grosgrain or sheer ribbon in the colors and widths of your choice. Thinner ribbon, less than an inch, is best for tying.
2. Cut six-inch lengths of the ribbon using a slanted cut and hot seal the ends with a lighter. Lay out the ribbons in the order in which they will be tied.
3. Tie the ribbons in a single knot around a plain ponytail holder, bunching the ribbon as you work. Continue cutting and adding ribbon until the plain ponytail holder is completely hidden.
Streaming Ribbon Ponytail Holder
4. Cut six 12-inch lengths of ribbon using a slanted cut and hot seal the ends with a lighter.
5. Bunch and bind the ribbons in the center with a needle and thread, leaving a long tail of thread for attaching the ponytail holder.
6. Position a two-hole button above the center of the bunch and a plain ponytail holder below it. Loop the needle and thread up through the holes of the button and down around the ribbons and ponytail holder. Continue looping five to 10 times and tie off with a double knot.
