Cover an Alligator Clip with Grosgrain Ribbon
Grosgrain-covered alligator clips are important for many different projects when crafting. From bow-making to simple clips, grosgrain-covered alligator clips will help keep embellishments in your hair as well as keep your hair from tangling in metal clips. Just about anything can be mounted to alligator clips, from handmade bows and appliques to silk flowers. By covering alligator clips with grosgrain ribbon, you can provide hours of fun for yourself and create your own personalized hair accessories.
Instructions
1. Fold and cut your ribbon in half. Quickly burn each exposed end with the lighter to heat-seal the edges and prevent fraying.
2. Drop a dot of glue on one edge of a piece of ribbon using a pre-heated hot glue gun. Quickly attach that edge to the pincher-side of the alligator clip. Hold until dry (approximately five to 10 seconds).
3. Squeeze a line of hot glue 1 1/2 inches down the ribbon where it will attach to the exposed metal of the alligator clip. Run the nose of your hot glue gun down the line of glue to flatten it out. Quickly press the glued side of the ribbon to the alligator clip.
4. Squeeze a line of hot glue down the remaining ribbon where it will attach to the metal on the inside of the alligator clip. Run the nose of your gun down the line of glue to flatten it out. Quickly open your alligator clip and press the ribbon to the opposite side of the alligator clip. One side of your alligator clip is now covered.
5. Repeat Steps 2 through 4 for the other side of the alligator clip. Your alligator clip is now lined.
