Make Hair Clips For That Office

Hair clips can help your hair look professional in the office.

Making hair clips is a simple craft that anyone can do, and it only takes a little creativity and care to make hair clips that are suitable for the office, too. In fact, a quirky hair clip can be just the thing to add a little pizazz to an otherwise basic office outfit, while more demure hair clips that are strictly office appropriate are similarly easy to create, using office-appropriate colors and fabrics with professional structure.

Instructions

1. Assess your office wardrobe. You want the hair clips you are going to create to coordinate with your existing professional wear. For example, if your office basics are largely black, you should avoid navy or brown tones when creating your hair clip; similarly, if you often wear light-colored apparel to the office, dark-colored hair clips will only attract undue attention to themselves. You should assess not just the colors, but also the textures and patterns that are predominate in your office wardrobe.

2. Decide what you want to accomplish with your hair clips. For example, you may work in an office where professional clothing which you consider dull is required; a charming hair clip decorated in rosettes in complementary colors may be just the thing to add interest to your appearance. Alternately, you may want to create hair clips that blend closely with the color of your hair or ones that match as closely as possible the fabric and colors of the dresses you wear on a daily basis. Or you may want to create ribbons that coordinate with the brightly colored blouses you wear under your suits.

3. Purchase the specific decorations for your hair clips. This can take the form of ribbons, rosettes, fabric swatches --- almost anything you can imagine that is also office appropriate. The more creative your professional environment, the more leeway in choosing your decor. If it helps, you may want to bring the outfits you are trying to match to the store with you when trying to match colors and textures.

4. Securely fasten your chosen accessories to the metal hair clips using tacky glue or a hot glue gun. Specifics will vary based on the type of hair clip you are creating. Rosettes can be glued in a straight or waving row; fabric can be wrapped around a piece of cardboard, then attached with glue to the top of the clip. Make sure to allow the glue sufficient time to dry completely before using it.
